At the end of 1992, Mario Spagnol acquired Dall’Oglio for Longanesi with the aim of relaunching its illustrious old catalogue. Stefano Mauri was immediately entrusted with its management and shortly after, Cecilia Perucci became Publishing director. In just a few years the launch was accomplished. The first operation was that of restoring the publisher’s historic name – Corbaccio – and re-establishing one of the most prestigious series: Scrittori di tutto il mondo (Writers from all over the world). To do this, two of the twentieth- century’s most significant books were chosen: Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain translated by Ervino Pocar, and Ce´line’s Journey to the End of the Night, retranslated for the occasion by Ernesto Ferrero. The subsequent 13 years re-introduced a succession of writers, representing the best of modern classics: Edith Wharton, Franz Werfel, Lion Feuchtwanger, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Ismail Kadare´, Patrick Su¨skind, Robert Graves, Peter Carey, Anne Tyler. Other collections were taken up again and relaunched, like that of extreme adventure, Exploits, with emblematic titles such as Thin Air by Jon Krakauer; Endurance by Lansing; Montagna nuda and Chogori by Messner, with new ones being created, in line with the times and trends. For instance, there is the Collana storica directed by Sergio Romano: Varia, which covers all the new trends in the self-help field; Dalla parte delle donne, which addresses women’s problems in the family, work and personal contexts; Profezie, which approaches the big themes of archaeology in an alternative manner; and New Age, a phenomenon that so incisively characterised the end of the millennium, and whose most significant and lasting expression is The Celestine Prophesy. Regarding contemporary fiction, there are two series: Narratori Corbaccio, with a particular leaning toward the historical novel, and the Romance series, dedicated to romantic fiction, with writers such asCharlotte Link, Mary Wesley and Joanna Trollope.
